“Assessor”
is the general term used for an individual (Lead Assessor, Technical Assessor,
Technical Expert) who assesses a conformity assessment body.
An
assessor undergoes appropriate training and has a combination of qualifications
and experience that make him/her competent to examine and evaluate a conformity
assessment body and to judge its competence, reliability, effectiveness and
quality. The assessor should have recent experience in the activities he/she is
required to assess.
An
assessor shall have the combination of assessor qualifications and experience
necessary to enable him/her to function effectively as a member of an
Assessment Team. As a general guide, an assessor would be expected to have an
academic degree or equivalent in a relevant area e.g. science, technology, law,

possess the adequate assessment skills including the capability to communicate
